B3 - Guide to the Oral Presentation

STEPS

I – Presentation Preparation

1.     Make groups of two or three students.
2.     Write a conversation on the units covered in class. You can use the conversation models in the units to help you.
3.     The length of the conversation depends on the number of students in each group. Groups of two students should make a one-page conversation and groups of three should make a one-and-a-half page conversation.
4.     Hand it to your teacher to be corrected one class before the oral presentation.

II - Presentation Day

1.     Present to the group the conversation without reading. No books, papers, or notes of any kind may be used.
2.     Students will be evaluated on their use of grammar and vocabulary covered in class as well as fluency, listening/discourse, and voice/pronunciation.
3.     Bring the whole conversation script and give a copy to your teacher.
4.     The presentation must be made by all the participants of the group.
5.     Bring some materials to help you create a real situation.

Examples:
  • If your presentation is about tennis, you could bring a tennis racket, a tennis ball and get dressed like a tennis player (shorts, t-shirt, tennis shoes).
  • If you are talking about your family, bring a photo album to introduce your family to your classmate.
  • If you are talking about food, you could bring some food and drink, such as oranges, bananas, apples, juice, soda etc and bring a poster of a refrigerator, counter or shelves or draw them on the board.
  • If your presentation is about vacation, bring some photos of your trip, postcards etc.

III - Evaluation

Your presentation evaluation will be based on the following aspects:
Creativity, grammar, vocabulary, fluency, intonation, pronunciation, group participation and extra material.
